There are many parents who are working outside the home who need to find proper care for their children. Some people will choose to hire in home care, while others will take their kids to a facility outside the home for the hours they are working. There are many factors to consider when choosing infant care, including:

Child’s temperament. It is important to know your child’s demeanor, as well as any likes, dislikes, interests, habits or certain behaviours. Behaviour issues are especially important to be aware of to be sure you are able to find a carer who can offer the guidance and support they may need.

Family values. If there are certain religious or cultural values that you feel are important for your child to be exposed to, be sure to search for a caregiver that can meet those needs.

Cost, location and reputation. These are also very important factors that need to be taken into consideration. You will not want to be spending more money than fits into your budget or have to be driving long distances to pick up and drop off your child. It is also important to look into the background completely of any place you are considering dropping off your child. If you are hiring an in home worker to look after your child, this is a very important factor when hiring.

After finding possible care for your child, it is important to make sure all details are discussed to be sure the arrangement will be suitable for your needs. If you are hiring a caregiver to come into your home, draw up a contract that covers all expected duties, salary, expected hours and any other factors such as sick time and vacation leave that need to be covered. Make sure you also include any obligations that you as a parent will contribute into the contract.

Many of the daycare settings that you will be considering will have some kind of contract of their own, which you will need to be sure to read over very closely to avoid any problems in the future. If they do not have one, make one of your own for them to look over and sign.

Observe the interaction between any caregivers and your children on a routine basis, unexpectedly stopping in to see how the arrangement is working out.

Make sure that the environment is safe and that strict hygiene measures are being adhered to.

Workers should have up to date immunizations and clear criminal background checks. The facility should be child-proof, and toys should be cleaned and disinfected regularly.

There are many issue to consider when choosing infant care, but provided they are safe, well-looked after and happy, you can be sure that you have done your job in finding the best possible care for your child.
